Sud De France Festival of Food and Wine rolls out worldwide this autumn
Sud de France - the umbrella brand created by the southern French region of Languedoc-Roussillon to promote the area’s food and wine exports – will be undertaking a major worldwide trade and consumer promotion this autumn
The Sud de France Festival will take place in six countries - the UK, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, the US and China - presenting Sud de France wine and food products in eight cities.
This ten-day trade and consumer event promoting Languedoc-Roussillon’s top quality wines and foods will be held in the following locations:
London (September 4-13)
Mexico City (October 9-25)
Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo and Belo Horizonte (October 1-12)
New York (October 2-12)
Shanghai (October 12-25)
Milan (October 26 – November 1)
The Sud de France Festival in the UK
The Sud de France Festival of food and wine will run in London and selected UK cities from September 4 – 13, comprising of trade and consumer promotions and events.
The main focus of the Sud de France Festival is London, where there will be free food and wine tastings, wine appreciation workshops, a free Sud de France picnic in central London, and the chance to sample a giant cassoulet (one of Languedoc-Roussillon’s signature dishes).
Nationwide, a series of Sud de France offers and promotions will be held throughout September at cafés, restaurants and retail outlets (Café Rouge, Harrods, Waitrose, Laithwaites, Oddbins, Marché du Quartier), giving consumers the chance to try and buy Sud de France food and wine on special offer.
Trade events
Great Wines of Languedoc-Roussillon – the Experts’ Choice
The Sud de France food and wine team will be hosting a press and trade-only tasting of Languedoc-Roussillon wines at the Maison de la Region Languedoc-Roussillon on Friday September 4, from 10 am – 6 pm. The tasting will present thirty “crème de la crème” wines from both AOC and Vin de Pays categories, chosen by selected members of the UK wine trade and press.
Speciality and Fine Food Fair
Sud de France is an official sponsor of this year’s Speciality and Fine Food Fair, held September 6 – 8 at London’s Olympia. Six Languedoc-Roussillon food and wine producers will be present at the show, working under the Sud de France banner. The brand will be hosting cookery demonstrations with chefs Frank Raymond (from London’s oldest French restaurant, Mon Plaisir), Claude Bosi (official ambassador of the Sud de France Festival and chef at London’s two Michelin-starred Hibiscus), and Gilles Company (head chef at The French Horn in Reading).
Sud de France sommelier competition
As part of the Sud de France Festival, the brand is launching a new competition – the Sud de France UK Sommelier of the Year award – to promote knowledge and understanding of the Sud de France wine offer.
Results will be announced on September 7 after the finals at the Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon, in central London.
London-based events and promotions
From September 4th, consumers will be able to take part in the following events and promotions:
Free Sud de France picnic
From midday on Wednesday September 9 only, those who have registered online at www.festival-suddefrance.com <http://www.festival-suddefrance.com/> (from August 18) can collect a free Sud de France picnic basket from the Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon, 6 Cavendish Square, London W1 (offer limited to the first 100 visitors), containing a Sud de France meal created exclusively by French chef Claude Bosi of two Michelin-starred London restaurant Hibiscus; a free glass of Sud de France wine will also be offered.
Giant Sud de France cassoulet and wine lunch offer
Sud de France is partnering with Marché du Quartier to provide a takeaway lunch menu showcasing cassoulet (a regional speciality typically made with white beans, pork sausages, goose or duck) on September 4-5 and 11-12, in London’s Borough Market.
Sud de France wine tasting at Vinopolis
From September 4-13, visitors to south east London’s wine tasting centre Vinopolis can sample a selection of Sud de France wines as part of their tour.
Additionally, on Thursday September 10 from 6.30 pm, wine expert and journalist Charles Metcalfe will be hosting a tasting of Sud de France wines, accompanied by a Mediterranean buffet of Sud de France fine foods.
Sud de France/WSET wine appreciation classes
A series of three, two-hour Sud de France wine appreciation classes are being organised by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and held at the Sud de France brand’s showcase offices at the Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon, 6 Cavendish Square, London W1.
Classes are lead by international French sommelier Frédéric Grappe. Dates are September 1, 8 and 15; cost is £25 per class, or £60 for all three.
Sud de France food showcase at Harrods Food Hall
From August 31 – September 13, Harrods Food Hall will be hosting a showcase of over a hundred Sud de France food products, with free tastings held from Wednesday September 9 – Friday September 11. Products to be featured include fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat, cheese, olives and a large selection of speciality and fine foods.
Sud de France cookery course at L’Atelier des Chefs
From September 4 - 13, Londoners can learn to cook authentic Sud de France recipes, accompanied by a free glass of Sud de France wine, at L’Atelier des Chefs (in central London, just off Oxford Street). Prices start from £18 for a half-hour lesson.
National promotions throughout September
• Café Rouge (105 UK outlets) will be serving a special Sud de France menu, matching typical southern French dishes with wines from the region.
• At Oddbins (132 branches) there will be free tastings of selected Sud de France wines, available for sale on special offer.
• High street and internet wine retailer Laithwaites (10 UK stores) will be offering a Sud de France “Midi Mix” wine case of 12 award-winning red wines, for the special price of £79.99.
• Consumers purchasing a bottle of Sud de France wine in any Waitrose store (199 outlets across the UK) can enter a competition to win a luxury Languedoc-Roussillon weekend break for two.
