| Mediterranean Gin launches in UK Gin Mare is a new super premium spirit from the Mediterranean which will launch in the UK at Distil (stand C70) May 18-20 Inspired by its provenance, Gin Mare’s signature botanicals are the flavours synonymous with the region: Arbequina olives, rosemary, basil and thyme. The Mediterranean influence is also reflected in the packaging, a stylistic interpretation of the botanicals and sea. Gin Mare has an RSP of £35 and will initially target London style bars and luxury retailers, with a particular focus on Mediterranean restaurants and London’s burgeoning “tapas scene”. Gin Mare is produced with small batch distillation in custom made stills, to a strength of 42.7% ABV. The distillery is located in a 19th Century chapel on the outskirts of Barcelona along the Costa Dorada; the chapel is affiliated to the sea as it was used by local fisherman to offer prayers before setting sail. In addition to its four signature botanicals, the gin also incorporates juniper, coriander, cardamom and citrus; all the botanicals are macerated for over 36 hours and distilled separately before being blended by hand, other than the citrus elements (a blend of Seville oranges, lemons and mandarins) which are macerated in clay jars for a year. The resulting profile is bold and rich, and with its accents of olive, Gin Mare is being positioned as the perfect Dry Martini as well as a base for classic Gin cocktails.
