GWC offers further research grants for 2010

The second International Student Research Grant programme of the Great Wine Capitals global network (GWC), a network of nine cities in both the northern and southern hemispheres in internationally renowned wine regions, will accept applications from qualified students until February 8, 2010.

The programme, which seeks to promote excellence and innovativeness in wine research, will award two grants of €4,500 for projects related to biodiversity and sustainability or wine tourism and marketing in a region belonging to the GWC global network from students enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate university degree programme.

From the grant, €2,500 will be paid to each finalist, with the remaining amount paid on presentation of the validated final report.

In addition to the grant, the authors of the two winning projects may receive a €500 stipend to help meet travel and lodging expenses for presenting their projects to the network’s AFM in Christchurch, New Zealand in November 2010.

The 2009 winners were Carla Silva from the University of Minho School of Economics and Management, Portugal (Generation X and Y: Understanding perceptions of wine and cellar door experiences as means to motivate and educate) and Ian MacNeil from Napa Valley College Hospitality and Management School, California (Lessons for emerging wine regions: Napa Valley transportation and ecotourism).

Global and detailed information are available on the GWC website and interested students can download the application form at
