Burn Stewart to rep Whyte & Mackay in Taiwan

Burn Stewart Distillers has announced a new partnership with Whyte & Mackay to promote its single malts, The Dalmore and Jura, in Taiwan. Both brands will now sit alongside Burn Stewart's portfolio.

Burn Stewart Distillers set up its distribution network in Taiwan in 1994 and has been a significant player in the market with its brand Scottish Leader Supreme remaining the leader in the Standard Blended Scotch category.

The Taiwan distribution division of Burn Stewart Distillers has 35 staff covering both on- and off-trade. The company’s distribution network in Taiwan has witnessed a major increase in the demand for single malts in the market, offering an ideal opportunity for the partnership between the whisky specialists. The Burn Stewart portfolio continues to grow in this market with the launch of Black Bottle in 2009. This brand has already seen significant growth and there are now plans in place to introduce the companys’ full single malt portfolio through 2010.

Andy Calder, sales director of Burn Stewart Distillers commented; ‘We look forward to our partnership with Whyte & Mackay in Taiwan, and welcoming The Dalmore and Jura brands.  As we continue to build upon our existing malt portfolio in the region, they add further interest and relevance to our own single malt portfolio of Bunnahabhain, Tobermory, Ledaig and Deanston.’

Commenting on the move, Whyte & Mackay's global sales and marketing director Nick Garland said: ‘Our luxury and premium brands are well placed to succeed in this dynamic marketplace, and we need a partner that is well established in Taiwan to help us to realise the potential that The Dalmore and Jura undoubtedly have.”

Scotch continues to be dominant in Taiwan and accounts for over 75% of spirit sales – a   share of the market which continues to rise. As one of the top three advertisers within the spirits category, Burn Stewart supports its brand through a significant marketing campaign worth over £2.5m each year.
