Alternative wine closure producer Nomacorc has introduced NomaSense O2 Prime, a new product engineered to measure oxygen exposure specifically during bottling.
Both the O2 Prime and the original NomaSense, named NomaSense O2 Trace, are tools that enable winemakers, bottlers and retailers to manage oxygen in wines. NomaSense O2 Trace was released in November 2009 and set an industry standard as a highly accurate, non-invasive portable oxygen measurement system. It provides rapid readings of trace amounts of oxygen up to 50 ppm and as low as 1 ppb and has applicability as a tool for controlling quality at every aspect of the winemaking process.
The newly modified NomaSense O2 Prime, which does not have the low-limit detection of the O2 Trace machine, is precisely designed with a measuring range ideal for bottling applications. Its easy-to-read display provides a quick and reliable assessment of how much oxygen is captured in the dissolved and gaseous states of the bottling process and ensures a consistent amount of oxygen ingress in each bottle.
“Managing oxygen throughout the process – from the arrival of the wine in bulk right through bottling – is crucial in our job,” said Sebastien Steinfort, production director at Paul Sapin. “As of 2010, our bottling lines will be equipped with NomaSense, so our staff will be able to define the technical evolution of oxygen with precision.”
Nomacorc was recently awarded France’s prestigious SITEVI 2009 Gold Medal for Innovation for introducing NomaSense oxo-luminescence technology for measuring oxygen in winemaking to the wine industry.
