Avery Dennison, the global supplier of self-adhesive labels, once again showed its extensive portfolio of Fasson wine and spirits labelling materials at the London International Wine Fair and Distil 2011
The company has become a specialist in meeting the needs of wine producers and spirits distillers, and their label designers, for labels that genuinely express the personality of the drink in question – whether it is a grand cru wine, a cask-quality whisky, or a quaffing wine for the supermarket shelf.
The global Avery Dennison wines and spirits team invited both exhibitors and visitors to its stand to experience how much is possible with a label. It is a bottle’s prime branding aid, and the dedicated Fasson labelstocks range reflects both aesthetic and functional needs, and is available in an extensive choice of papers and films. The options include many different styles, colours, and textures in papers; matt and velvet-finish film; foils; and clear film with ultra-clear adhesive for the popular ‘no-label look’.
New to the Fasson range
Texture is often a critical feature for a bottle label, and Fasson Cane Fibre White and Fasson White Cotton are two new eco-friendly options that deliver tactile results. Ice bucket conditions are also catered for with impermeable film stocks, wet-strength papers, and moisture-resistant adhesives. Fasson Super White Opaque, also new to the range, adds an extra element of opacity to labels destined for the ice bucket; and the new pearlescent Fasson Frozen Astra Diamond offers an extra touch of luxury.
For brandies, whiskies, and white spirits, the use of metallic foil on the bottle has long been favoured, and the ‘new-generation’, extra-thick Fasson Solid Foil, which extends the possibilities for creating on-press enhancements such as embossing and debossing to the portfolio of processes employed to promote the bottle’s contents as an object of desire. Automatic label dispensing is also significantly smoother and easier with this new product than with other foils on the market.
Events on the stand
Visitors to stand could see many ‘real-life’ examples of labelled bottles, and may also experience, on specific days during the show, the expertise of a digital sketch artist in translating branding ideas into label designs; wine tastings; and – only for the period of the London International Wine Fair – free registration for the global Pentawards 2011 packaging competition, courtesy of Avery Dennison.
Functional features for wine bottles
One of the most important characteristics of the Fasson wine and spirits label range is the provision functional features for bottlers. High-performance adhesives deliver the very specific requirements of the wine industry – including ice bucket performance, wash-off, and bubble-free neckstraps. For high-value bottles, customer-specific, and even vintage-specific security/product authentication can also be built into the label – solutions that contribute positive benefits to wine producers and bottlers concerned about protecting their brand name and image.
