Johnnie Walker launches The Spice Road

Diageo has unveiled the first expression in a series as part of a new portfolio of Johnnie Walker whiskies that take their inspiration from the travelling heritage of John Walker & Sons.

The Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection will be on sale exclusively to today’s global travellers via duty-free stores from next month.

The inspiration for the first three blends in this collection came from the exotic trade routes – the Spice Road of Europe and Asia, the Royal Route from Europe to Persia, and the Gold Route of the Americas and the Caribbean. These were the routes which, in 1820, the Walker family and their agents set out along to ensure that by the 1920s, Johnnie Walker was being enjoyed in 120 countries and on the great railways, luxury ocean liners and early transatlantic flights.

The first release in the Trade Routes Series, Johnnie Walker The Spice Road, is an expression of the vibrancy, aromas and spices of the markets around Asia. It is a bold complex blend with a rich flavour and exceptional smoothness. A spicy zestiness on the nose is balanced by fresh citrus. The smooth, rich and honeyed flavours on the palate - warmed by cloves, ginger and vanilla sweetness - give way to a smouldering finish of the Johnnie Walker signature smoke.

It will be available in duty free stores in Europe, the Middle East and Australia in December, and globally from January 2013 at an RRP of US$43 / €36.90 / £26. The second and third releases in the Trade Routes Series – Johnnie Walker The Gold Route and Johnnie Walker The Royal Route will be released in in 2013.
