QR coded labels link wines to recipes

Portuguese wine producer Falua has joined forces with food and wine matching expert Charles Metcalfe to promote the food matching potential of Tagus Creek wines.

Charles, who is the co-author of the Wine & Food Lover’s Guide to Portugal with Kathryn McWhirter, has created recipes to match three of the wines within the Tagus Creek range that are widely available in UK supermarkets.

Videos of Charles demonstrating each recipe can be accessed directly via QR codes on the bottle labels. To alert consumers to the recipes, each bottle carries a promotional neck label, instructions on how to access the video and a shopping list of the ingredients to enable them to be purchased while in the store.

Two dishes have been created for each of the following wines: Tagus Creek Rosé, Tagus Creek Chardonnay & Fernão Pires and Tagus Creek Shiraz & Trincadeira, allowing the videos to be changed throughout the year according to the Season.

Charles comments: “The concept of matching food to wine, rather than wine to food, really appealed to me. I started off by analysing the taste profile of the Tagus Creek range in depth before testing different flavours alongside each wine with a group of consumers to get a balanced view. This demonstrated just how food friendly these wines can be and from there my imagination took flight in the kitchen!”

Luis de Castro, board director at Falua, commented: “What better way for us to bring the wines to life than to create something that invites our consumers to interact with the wine, and which they can access instantly when they pick up the wines in store. We were delighted to work with Charles, who has such a huge knowledge not just of Portuguese wines, but also of our entire gastronomic culture. We hope this will generate even more excitement about the Portuguese category moving forwards.”
