Matthew Clark adds Bodegas Baigorri to portfolio

Drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark has taken on the UK agency for Bodegas Baigorri, securing exclusive distribution rights for the wines in the UK on and off-trade. 

Located in the Alavesa region of Rioja, Bodegas Baigorri was founded in 1997 and is known for its innovative takes on the classic varietals and winemaking techniques of the region. The winery is one of Rioja’s architectural icons with its signature ‘glass box’ design, which takes advantage of natural topography to ensure the entire winemaking process can be conducted using gravity.

The range, that will be available through Matthew Clark from March 2013, includes the Barrel Fermented Blanco, Rosado, Crianza, Reserva and the flagship Baigorri de Garage, a wine made from grapes selected berry by berry from very old vines and only made in outstanding vintages.

Describing the Baigorri philosophy, chief winemaker, Simón Arina, says: “It’s a case of respecting the provenance of the final product: the delicate, predominantly Tempranillo, grapes that grow under the protection of the Cantabrian mountains here in Alavesa.”
