New distribution deal for Edinburgh Gin

Ian MacLeod Distillers has been appointed to distribute independent family-run Fife-based Spencerfield Spirit Company’s brands including Edinburgh Gin, Sheep Dip and Pig’s Nose Whisky.

Edinburgh Gin is distilled in small batches with Scottish juniper berries, pine, heather and 12 other botanicals in a 200 year old Scottish copper pot still and bottled in Edinburgh at 43%abv.  Since its launch, Edinburgh Gin has won a string of international awards and exceeded sales expectations.

“We are delighted to add Spencerfield products to the Ian MacLeod portfolio, these brands are complementary to our existing portfolio,” commented Neil Boyd, UK commercial director for Ian Macleod Distillers.

“The premium gin market is buoyant and we see major opportunities for Edinburgh Gin throughout the UK. In addition, Sheep Dip and Pigs Nose whisky will provide a quirky alternative to our existing brands and play well with those looking for products with an additional point of difference”.

Commenting on the new partnership, which brings together two Scottish-based independent family firms, Alex Nicol, founder of Spencerfield Spirit Company added:  “Since we acquired our founding brands Sheep’s Dip and Pig’s Nose in July 2005, export sales have doubled annually.

“While we enjoy strong distribution in important export markets and picked up Scotland Food and Drink’s award for best Exporter in 2012, we need to grow our brands in the UK with a particular focus on the South and into London. The expertise, market knowledge and national sales presence that Ian Macleod Distillers brings will help deliver real growth for our brands.”

Sold in over 20 international markets, Sheep Dip malt whisky is available in specialists and independents.  Handcrafted and produced in small batches featuring a blend of 16 individual Highland, Island and Speyside Single Malts all aged between eight and 21 years, Sheep Dip was first established in the UK in 1970.
