Overeem whisky from Tasmania enters UK market

An award-winning whisky from Down Under is now on sale in the UK. Overeem single malt whisky is made “using the very finest ingredients Australia has to offer – the best barley and the cleanest water” at a boutique family-run distillery in Tasmania.

The whisky is available in four bottlings – a port matured vintage with 43% abv, a cask strength port mature at 60% abv, a 43% strength sherry matured and a cask strength 70% abv sherry mature offering. All offer completely different senses on the eye, nose and palate.

The 70cl bottle has a RRP of between £139.99 and £189.99.

The product is being marketed in the UK by Oak Cask Distribution, headed by Toby Dudfield and Jonah Costello. They have reported that sales during the first month of trading in the UK have been good and that Overeem also "made waves" at the recent Liverpool Whisky Festival were it won Dram of the Day, beating some very big names in the Scotch whisky world.

Overeem’s Old Hobart distillery produces just 8,000 bottles a year and was one of the few selected distillers to receive a Liquid Gold Award in the Jim Murray Whisky Bible 2013.

Founder Casey Overeem’s love for great tasting malt whisky began more than 30 years ago when he first started distilling at a relative’s house in Norway. Returning to Tasmania, he started experimenting and soon realised the Aussie state offered the perfect climate and ingredients for the production of single malt whisky.
