Merger to create premium packaging platform

Earlier this year, two of the leading suppliers of value-added branded consumer packaging merged to offer an unparalleled range of products and services to the premium drinks sector.  Together, Chesapeake and Multi Packaging Solutions can now provide brand consistency on a global scale as well as dedicated local support for regional and local brands.  The merger expands Chesapeake’s European and Asian capabilities to now include a US manufacturing network strategically positioned to support the spirits market with a complete suite of print and packaging solutions.

With three dedicated locations in Scotland for cartons, tubes, and labels, Chesapeake is centrally located to the major whisky bottling facilities.  This proximity is ideal for close collaboration on product development, convenience with press checks and reliability of delivery.  Its Asian presence also offers the potential for premium packaging in developing markets.

These same geographic advantages are now available in the US with the network of print and packaging facilities Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS) has in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina and Dallas.  MPS’s wide format presses, diversity of printing, finishing, and decorative technologies for cartons, labels, marketing collateral and POP are ideally suited for premium spirits.

“We are excited to join forces with Chesapeake to create a unique platform to fully support the premium drinks market,” comments Erin Willigan, VP marketing, Multi Packaging Solutions.

“Our combined resources, global network, extensive technology portfolio, and team of talented industry professionals offer distinct advantages to customers such as Pernod Ricard, Diageo, Bacardi, Groupo Campari, Beam, Brown Forman and Sydney Frank looking for superior print and packaging.”

The group’s combined capabilities for decorated rigid packaging for global gifting are also impressive.  MPS has been a leader in special packaging with decades of experience in designing, developing and producing deluxe, commemorative and collectable editions for the music and home entertainment markets.

Over the years, the MPS team has tackled virtually every packaging challenge imaginable.  Its extensive supply partner network covers a range of materials, including chipboard, metal, glass, plastic, wood, and various specialtystocks. Chesapeake’s rigid packaging facility in Poland further complements this approach in mainland Europe.

“With the merger complete, we are now much more versatile in terms of capabilities to support our customers in Europe, Asia, and the US,” comments James Clark, global sales director – drinks. “Our product range is comprehensive and now includes cartons, tubes, labels, rigid packaging, VAPs, marketing collateral and POP.”
