Origin Wines unveils the Stormhoek stack

Origin Wine was showing an interesting take on single serve wines for outdoor occasions on its stand at this year's London Wine Fair.

The Stormhoek stack comprises four individual 18.7cl PET tumblers of wine that click together. Each is filled directly and heat sealed with peal-back foil lids. The top ‘glass’ also has a plastic overcap and the entire stack is held together with a shrink sleeve label that has a tear-strip ‘zip’ for easy opening.

The South African wines are packaged in California by StackTek whose Vinoware injection moulded container is made from a unique copolymer material that provides an crystal clear container that looks and feels like glass, while offering superior processing and consistency.

The state of the art StackTek MAP-Pack 1X6 filling and packaging line is claimed to be the most sophisticated single serve ready-to-drink packaging line in the world. The custom engineered filler was developed specifically for StackTek and uses a modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) method, which extends the shelf life. The line is completely automated from start to finish with quality control measures throughout the system.

The Stormhoek Chardonnay from the Western Cape will be in selected Tesco stores from August ( RRP £6.99 tbc); a Stormhoek Cabernet Sauvignon from Portugal is also available.
