The Association of Wine Educators has announced the appointment of a new chairman, Heather Dougherty.
Following her previous career in the travel industry Heather turned her talents to wine educating and has been teaching for the past eight years; five of which as an active member of the AWE. She is also a member of the Circle of Wine Writers and writes a regular wine column for the Surrey Advertiser.
Dougherty comments, “I feel privileged and honoured to have been elected as chairman of the AWE. We are a dynamic and active association and my aim is to build on the networking of our previous Chairmen to continue to raise the profile of the AWE and to demonstrate the high standard that we set for professional, qualified wine education in the UK and abroad.”
The Association of Wine Educators was founded in 1993 and currently has 87 members in the UK, as well as elsewhere across the globe, including Ireland, Portugal, France, USA, Brazil and Hong Kong.
Members must hold the WSET Diploma in Wine and Spirits (some are also Masters of Wine) and all are rigorously assessed on their teaching ability as well as wine knowledge.
