Michael Owen is set to become a global ambassador for Spey whisky after signing a three year contract with the Scottish whisky brand owned by Speyside Distillers.
This is the first drinks company association for the former Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United and England legend and a limited edition Michael Owen branded Spey whisky will be released later this year.
Spey Whisky is already a very successful and established brand in the Far East, especially Taiwan. Working with Michael Owen the brand will further establish itself in China and across South East Asia generally. Michael is very well known and much admired in these territories and he will be making a number of trips to the region in his new role.
Speaking about the new appointment, Michael Owen says: "I am delighted to become the worldwide brand ambassador for Spey whisky. Since I retired as a professional footballer I have been able to enjoy some of the finer things in life and enjoying a glass or two of Spey whisky is certainly a little treat I afford myself on occasion! I am really looking forward to helping promote such a prestigious brand, particularly in Asia where I am happily spending more and more of my time these days."
John Harvey McDonough, CEO of Speyside Distillers, announces: “We are thrilled to be working with Michael, a true icon of international football as well as a great family man. Spey is an increasingly iconic brand, especially in international territories. We are also a family business, so the fit could not be better.”
After a thoroughly enjoyable week at Royal Ascot, Michael Owen and John Harvey McDonough returned to Manor House Stables to celebrate Michael's new role as global brand ambassador for Spey.
Manor House Stables is a thoroughbred horse racing establishment situated in 160 acres of beautiful Cheshire countryside and co-owner Michael Owen felt it was the perfect location from which to formally announce his new role.
