The Lakes Gin offers a taste of Cumbria

The Lakes Distillery will launch The Lakes Gin, the only gin to be distilled in Cumbria, at this year’s Taste Cumbria food festival on September 27-28.

The artisan gin is distilled in The Lakes Distillery’s bespoke 1,000 litre copper pot still using Cumbrian juniper, water from the River Derwent and a mix of traditional gin botanicals as well as bilberry, meadowsweet, hawthorn and heather, foraged on local fells where possible to create an intrinsically Lake District product with a unique taste.

Paul Currie, founder and managing director of The Lakes Distillery, says: “The Lakes Gin is the only gin to be distilled in Cumbria and it uses exceptional Cumbrian ingredients through and through, so there is no place better to launch it than at Cumbria’s biggest celebration of food - Taste Cumbria.

“We are immensely proud of our Cumbrian heritage and have put in enormous effort to make this a gin of spectacular flavour. We can’t wait to see reactions as we offer free tastings over the course of the festival weekend.”

The Lakes Distillery will be selling The Lakes Gin throughout the two days of Taste Cumbria as well as offering complimentary tastings of The Lakes Gin and The ONE, the first British blend of whiskies (read the report), which was launched at last year’s Taste Cumbria event.

In addition to starting production of The Lakes Gin, the distilling processes for The Lakes Malt and The Lakes Vodka will also commence in September and in December the distillery’s visitor centre, artisan bar and bistro and shop will open, making it a key Lake District attraction.
