Cointreau Noir introduced to UK on-trade

Last week, during London Cocktail Week - Alfred Cointreau, sixth generation of the family behind the French liqueur brand Cointreau, unveiled a new spirit, Cointreau Noir, to the UK market.

Cointreau Noir was created by Cointreau’s master distiller of 30 years, Bernadette Langlais, who says she was inspired by Majestic, a spirit recipe originally formulated by Édouard Cointreau in the 1900’s.

Bernadette has enriched the original recipe - a blend of Cointreau orange liqueur and cognac Rémy Martin - by macerating it with walnuts and almonds, thus bringing out additional aromas and complexity.

Bernadette decided to rename Majestic as Cointreau Noir - in reference to the density and darkness that the cognac brings to the blend, as well as a tribute to the uniqueness of this revisited recipe.

The Rémy Cointreau Group has a portfolio of premium international brands of which notably the Rémy Martin and Louis XIII cognacs, the liqueurs Cointreau and Passoa, Metaxa, Mount Gay rum, St. Rémy brandy, the Botanist gin and the Bruichladdich single malt Scotch whiskies.
