Vidrala completes acquisition of Encirc

Vidrala the Spain-based glass manufacturer with production plants and melting furnaces in Portugal, France, Belgium and Italy, has acquired UK-based container glass manufacturing, filling and logistics company, Encirc, for €408.6 million.

The acquisition will enlarge Vidrala’s position in the European glass packaging market. Encirc will retain its identity under the management of the current team, led by MD, Adrian Curry. With almost 1,200 employees, Encirc has two state of the art manufacturing plants, in Derrylin, Northern Ireland and Elton, Cheshire. The Derrylin and Elton plants manufacture container glass for the UK and Ireland food and drink sectors with the Elton plant also providing a beverage filling and logistics service.

Curry says: “Vidrala has a sizeable presence in Europe and has committed to supporting Encirc’s continued development and investment. This will ensure that the business will continue to grow, innovate, maintain and enhance its market-leading position to the benefit of Encirc’s employees, customers, suppliers and local communities alike”.

Gorka Schmitt, CEO of Vidrala, comments: “This integration will enhance the resulting group’s position in the European glass packaging market. Encirc has demonstrated a solid market share in recent years thanks to the engagement of its employees, its modern facilities, competitiveness and strong customer relationships. Vidrala has demonstrated capabilities in the integration of companies within its group, promoting their respective local footprints, developing industrial sites, adding its well proven expertise in the glass packaging business and improving customer satisfaction. This acquisition represents an important milestone for Vidrala. The integration will ensure both Vidrala and Encirc are better placed for the future.”
