Cask strength Scallywag released

Independent Scotch whisky specialist, Douglas Laing & Co has released a cask strength limited edition bottling of Scallywag at 53.6%ABV. The original Scallywag was launched in November 2013.

This limited edition bottling is created using only the finest Speyside malts including, amongst others, Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes, and only 1,000 cases are available globally. The unique packaging features a rather startled Scallywag, his ears pricked and his monocle blasted off having just experienced his cask strength namesake for the first time.

Says Douglas Laing’s MD (and proud Fox Terrier owner) Fred Laing: “This Cask Strength Scallywag bottling makes the wee dog’s eyes pop, his ears blow open and his monocle ping - but it will make your palate sing. The mellifluously fruity, spicy character and barley, mocha, vanilla and orange-y flavours make it a human treat worth begging for.”

Douglas Laing’s Scallywag Cask Strength limited edition will be available from specialist whisky retailers from June 2015.

Cask Strength Scallywag is described as having a rich, dark colour – extracted from the many fine Spanish sherry butts selected.  It carries a richly spiced character on the nose with vanilla from the bourbon hogsheads. On the palate is dark chocolate, more vanilla and sweet stewed fruit fused with spice (nutmeg and cinnamon) and treacle – much of which can be attributed to the years in sherry butts. The finish displays a burst of zesty orange with sweet tobacco, cocoa and rich fruit cake.

Skalywag was winner of the World's Best Blended Malt Whisky Design Award in 2014. The judges said: "Nicely proportioned, tactile bottle design with an engaging, full-on but endearing personality. The label is a well-crafted new take on an old illustration technique."
