Angostura is one of the world’s most highly awarded rum ranges and this is the second limited edition release in its ultra-premium Cask Collection Range. The guide retail price of this new rum is £89.99 for a 70cl bottle. The total distillation is only 15,030 bottles, which will be distributed in the UK, France and other EU countries, Russia and Australia.
Known for its iconic Angostura Bitters and rum-making heritage, the House of Angostura is the only rum distillery in Trinidad. Its Cask Collection Range is dedicated to limited edition rums aged in special casks. The No.1 name conveys the spirit of the rum being one-of-a-kind. Bottled at 40% abv, the new Angostura Rum No.1 Once Used French Oak is a silky smooth complex blend, created with a fusion of techniques learned from the Old World and perfected in the New World.
Angostura Rum No.1 Once Used French Oak is a 16 year old blend, which is ideal for sipping neat or over ice. The rums were aged for a minimum of 10 years in American oak casks, then blended and -for the first time -re-casked into French oak casks that were once used for ageing cognac. It is then matured for an additional six years in the French oak casks to infuse the rum with luxurious oak-driven flavours of nuts, dried fruit, such as dates and figs with subtle floral qualities.
The bottle is recognised by its royal purple and gold label and comes in a matching cylinder gift box.
The first shipments of 1,800 bottles of Angostura Rum No.1 Once Used French Oak will arrive in the UK in December, and pre-orders are being taken now by Cellar Trends. John Georges, master distiller for Angostura rum in Trinidad & Tobago, will visit the UK for an extensive train training tour for bar staff in Manchester, Leeds, London and Glasgow in Autumn, to coincide with the launch. He will also host a distilling and ageing masterclass at UK RumFest on 17 October.
Craig Chapman, marketing manager for Angostura at Cellar Trends, comments: “The UK trade and spirits connoisseurs have an increasing appetite for artisan rums. The first rum in the Cask Collection in 2013 sold out fast, so we think this new Angostura Rum No.1 Once Used French Oak will be keenly sought after. This Autumn, we are creating an extensive programme of events hosted by Angostura master distiller Jean Georges to showcase the range.”
The Angostura rum range has won more than 100 medals for taste in international competitions in the past decade.
