Freixenet is kicking off the summer season with a new Ice Cava to be enjoyed over ice.
Freixenet Ice Cava is a premium Cava, a sparkling wine of Denominación de Origen (DO) status from the Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain’s key wine-producing area, made by the traditional method, but fashioned from a grape blend that, when served over ice, is refreshing yet bursting with aromas of peaches, flowers and nuances of tropical fruits. The palate is creamy yet sweet with a long finish.
Freixenet wine makers have blended the classical Cordon Negro grapes to be “just a little richer” to balance the chill of the ice, using Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada, with a touch of Chardonnay. Freixenet ICE is then aged in the cellars of Freixenet for 12-14 months.
Freixenet Ice Cava will be available from Morrisons for an initial period before being rolled out to other retailers and the on-trade from June at an RRP of £12.99.
Freixenet Ice Cava is wrapped in a stiking white full body shrink sleeve with gold print (not like some other recent 'ice' launches - including Champagnes, sparking wines and a cognac) in stark contrast to Freixenet's distictive black bottles that hold its traditional Cava.
