New husband and wife craft gin producers, Vicky and Dale McQueen, are this week launching their first range of four uniquely flavoured gins in bottles created by Wade Ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent. Their distillery is situated in an old stone barn just outside Callander, Scotland.
“We are distinguishing ourselves in the gin market though unique flavours and unique packaging,” says Vicky who is an experienced chef and master baker.
Their gin four flavours are: Mocha, with Bulgarian juniper, grapefruit, vanilla, chocolate and coffee; Sweet Citrus, with Bulgarian juniper, grapefruit, lemongrass, and Kaffir lime; Chocolate Mint, with Bulgarian juniper, liquorice, vanilla, mint and chocolate; and Smokey Chilli, with Bulgarian juniper, chipotle chilli, smoked chilli and chilli lime.
“Every one of our flavours is stunning with tonic, in a Martini or as part of a more complex cocktail,” she says. ‘The flavour variants will change and evolve to stay fresh. Every batch has its own special character, imparted by the unique combination of ingredients that went into creating it.”
Dale, who is a chartered mechanical engineer, adds: “We offer our hand crafted gin in four unique flavours, each one meticulously crafted in our distillery in Callander, and available to buy online. We hand charge our 'state of the art' still with grain alcohol and botanicals, then distill to produce the finished gin. No flavour elements are added after the product leaves the still.
“Many gins described as ‘craft’ or ‘small batch’ are made, bottled and shipped by third party contract distillers. The nature of hand crafting gin gives character without monotonous uniformity.”
