Gerry Murray has joined The Duty Free World Council as executive secretary. In this newly created position Gerry will be responsible for the day to day management of the activities of the DFWC and, working closely with the president, the implementation of the agreed strategies and action plans of the council. He will report directly to the president and to the council board.
Commenting on the appointment, DFWC president Frank O’Connell said: “Gerry is widely respected within the industry. He has strong cultural awareness and a good understanding of the challenges facing the business. I believe Gerry will bring energy, strategic perspective and a wide range of experience to the role and his appointment will help bring the DFWC on to the next stage in its development.”
Gerry Murray has more than 20 years’ experience in duty free and travel retail and has held senior positions with some of the major brands across multiple product categories. He currently has his own business -Traveller’s Trove - based in Brussels and offering consultancy and brand representation in the DF&TR channel.
Speaking of his appointment Gerry said: “I am delighted and honoured to be offered this important role with the Duty Free World Council as it works to shape the future of our industry. Today, as often in the past, the industry is facing many challenges and the Council, as the unique body representing the business on the global stage, will play a key role in coordinating coherent global responses to these challenges.
“I look forward to pooling all my experience with that of the council members in order to promote and defend this industry which I have had the privilege of being involved in for more than 20 years.”
