Patrón will debut a limited production oloroso sherry cask-aged añejo tequila at the TFWA Exhibition in Cannes: Patrón Cask Collection Sherry Añejo.
This distinctive ultra-premium spirit was made with the highest-quality 100% Weber blue agave, which is steam baked in brick ovens for about three days. The agave is then crushed, fermented and distilled using the time honoured ‘tahona’ process, together with the more modern roller mill method. After distillation, the tequila was aged for more than two years in oak barrels from Spain that were previously used to produce oloroso sherry.
“Sherry casks exhibit an elegant flavour and aroma of pecans, which marry beautifully with the taste of agave,” says Francisco Alcaraz, Patrón’s master distiller who developed the original small batch process and recipe for Patrón tequila. “I have been working with sherry casks for several years, to achieve the perfect balance of the unmistakable taste from the oak without losing any of the characteristic flavour of the agave, and I’m very proud to now present Patrón Cask Collection Sherry Añejo.”
Patrón Sherry Cask Añejo (80 proof) is characterised by its bright, medium-gold colour and its complex aroma of pecans, fresh-cooked agave, light butter, and dried fruits. It tastes of pecans, light toasted oak, caramel, raisins, light vanilla, and a hint of butter. A very limited, exclusive allocation of Patrón Cask Collection Sherry Añejo was initially produced for global duty free in early 2017, prior to a broader release in select domestic markets in the future.
In addition to the debut of Patrón Cask Collection Sherry Añejo, the entireportfolio of ultra-premium Patrón tequilas and liqueurs will be featured at the Patrón stand (in a new location this year at J35 in the Green Village) during the TFWA World Exhibition at Le Palais des Festivals Cannes, 3-7 October 2016.
