Aluna Coconut, a blend of rums from Guatemala and the Caribbean with toasted coconut flavours, has been launched by Cloudbreak Spirits.
Aluna Coconut has an ABV of 35% and has a "limited amount of sugar".
The high altitude Guatemalan rum in Aluna Coconut is distilled from pure cane juice (rum agricole), which the company claims makes a lighter and smoother rum with a natural subtle sweetness, removing the need for the large quantities of sugar found in other coconut rums. A strain of yeast extracted from pineapple is used to ferment the sugar. Caribbean rums add classic rum notes and heat, while lightly toasted natural coconut provides a non-synthetic flavour dimension. After marrying, the rum is cut with organic coconut water.
Aluna translates as ‘to the moon’ or ‘moon goddess’. The mandala design is a traditional spiritual symbol for the universe, popular on surf boards for generations. Aluna’s mandala label incorporates the phases of the moon and combines a moon/coconut icon in its centre.
Cloudbreak Spirits director, Heather Graham, says: “We’re delighted to be launching Aluna Coconut at this time. Our brand world is built around a central theme of empowerment – particularly amongst women for whom this generation has conferred greater independence, liberty and self-determination. We’re confident this brand positioning, alongside the delicious flavour affinity of rum and coconut, coupled with a lower sugar content and clean, natural taste will appeal to our core target market of women and men aged 21+.”
On shelf and online with Harvey Nichols in April, Aluna Coconut will be rolling out to stores and on-trade outlets throughout the UK over the summer. International distribution is in the pipeline for 2017/18.
