Sloemotion releases a Hedgerow Gin

Sloemotion has created a craft gin using botanicals from Green Farm and its local surroundings. Its new Hedgerow Gin will appear on shelves alongside the brand's liqueurs and fruit cup.

Sloemotion has included some hedgerow botanicals in the distillation alongside the classic London gin ingredients. Rosehips, crab apples and sloe stones have been added.

Joff Curtoys, managing director of Sloemotion, said: “We’re really excited to be launching our Hedgerow Gin; it’s been a painstaking process of development and refinement over the last two years; getting the recipe just right and creating a really beautiful bottle. We hope people will love it and the gin as much as we do.”

The brand hand cuts hay from its own “micro-meadow” at Green Farm as well as from Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Wharram Quarry Nature Reserve. The sloe stones come from their Sloe Gin production. Curtoys adds: “Up until this point the stones were literally the only bi-product from the liqueur-making process that wasn’t re-used - the flesh of the spent fruit is used in our popular range of chocolates truffles and chutneys!”

It’s not just the botanicals that are inspired by the hedgerows; they also provide the idea for the bottle, designed by the Leeds-based team at Zeppo Creative. Each of the botanicals is depicted in a hand-drawn ‘hedgerow’ sketch around the bottle, and printed in creamy white like the pretty Blackthorn blossom which line fields and lanes in early spring each year. ‘British Spirit with Yorkshire heart’ adorns the side of the bottle with a key for each of the six botanicals; which are also echoed in the six-sided hexagon, used in aspects of the design.
