Guillermo del Toro designs Patron bottle

Guillermo del Toro, the Mexican film director, designer and screenwriter, has brought his imaginative art to an unlikely canvas, an intricately elaborate, limited-edition release from Patrón tequila – Patrón x Guillermo del Toro

The partnership marks one of the first collaborations in which del Toro has engaged outside of the entertainment industry, and among a handful of partnerships selected by Patrón over its long history.

The drawings on the packaging were inspired by jimadores, the labourers that hand-harvest and trim the Weber Blue Agave from which the tequila is distilled, and which form the decorative centrepiece on the glass bottle. Within the display case, this limited-edition 750ml bottle of extra añejo tequila sits upside down as the ‘torso’, with a crystal ‘skull’ bottle filled with 100ml of an orange liqueur produced from Patrón tequila.

The spirit in the larger bottle is a blend of Patrón tequilas aged for an average of more than five years in a combination of different new and used oak barrels.

The extra añejo tequila in the Patrón x Guillermo del Toro blend is characterized by its bright, golden colour, with an aroma and flavour of light honey, nuts and raisins, slight vanilla, and oak. The sweet and fruity balanced taste makes way to a long finish of agave and oak.

The orange liqueur is medium amber in colour, with a distinctly sweet aroma and taste of citrus, clove, light French toast, and caramel.

Only a very limited number of sets were produced, and are currently available at fine spirits and liquor retailers across the US at RRP US$399.
