SPECIAL REPORT: Packaging Innovations preview

Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging London returns to Olympia, London, on 13 & 14 September 2017. As the leading event of its kind, the exclusive two-day show will bring together senior decision makers and buyers looking to revitalise their packaging, increase brand awareness, and boost sales.

New for 2017, the show has a brand-new seminar format for its Keynote Theatre. This will allow more focus on key packaging markets, such as food and drink. The Drinks Forum, hosted by Felicity Murray, Editor-in-Chief  of The Drinks Report, will show attendees how to create innovative and attractive packaging that will succeed in a crowded market. Sessions will be presented by thought-leaders from the industry.

Speakers at the Drinks Forum include Kristian Andrews, Design Manager at St Austell Brewery and Lee Cook, Director and Co-Founder of CookChicK Design who will reveal the new look for Cornwall’s largest independent breweries’ bottled beers - starting with Tribute, Korev and Proper Job.

Also speaking as part of The Drinks Forum will be Dr John Walters, Distiller at The Newmarket Gin and Bernard Gormley, Partner at Nude Brand Creation, who will take to the stage to present ‘A High Quality Product Built Entirely Around a Brand Concept’. They will explain how Newmarket Gin came about and its connection with The Bedford Lodge Hotel. Plus, they will look at how the packaging was directly inspired by Newmarket racecourse.

Croft Twist, a sparkling ready-mixed long drink, was launched this summer by Gonzalez Byass UK.  Martin Skelton and Mark Davis from Gonzalez Byass will talk about the rationale behind this new product; how they see the sherry market changing and why they responded to the challenge with Croft Twist - a twist on the traditional look and flavour.

These educational, expert sessions will run alongside two other theatres, which will host a full programme of free-to-attend seminars, spanning the entire packaging spectrum

Also launching at this year’s show is a free-to-attend Packaging Design Summit. This is being run in association with the Pentawards, the most prestigious worldwide competition exclusively devoted to packaging design in all its forms. It will consider the current trends, themes and issues facing the packaging designers of today, with key topics including ‘designing for the work-hard, play-hard generation X’, ‘creating beautifully persuasive brands that grow’ and ‘packaging design for brand and product enhancement’.

Visitors will also be presented with a series of interactive features allowing them to get expert advice on some of the biggest challenges they are facing. This will include favourites such as the Innovation Showcase, where exhibitors will go head to head presenting their latest innovations to a panel of judges, before attendees vote for their favourites. The Innovation Wall will return to air the industry’s ideas and frustrations on the key subject of ‘innovation’. Finally, the Packaging Consultancy Clinic returns to give visitors the opportunity to gain one-to-one expert advice on any aspect of their packaging.

In addition to this, over 180 top suppliers are already signed up for this year’s show. Some of the names on board include Virojanglor Sarl, Lucas Luxury Packaging, James Cropper, Schur Star, Croxsons, plus many. They will be unveiling their latest innovations in branded and inspirational packaging.
