Salcombe Distilling Company has launched a limited edition gift set featuring cask aged Finisterre gin alongside Bodegas Tradición 12 Years Old Fino sherry.
A collaboration between Bodegas Tradición and Salcombe Distilling Co based in South Devon. The brand partnership is inspired by the famous nineteenth century trading routes of the Salcombe Fruit Schooners.
Aged in the same cask from which the accompanying Fino was drawn, this limited-edition ‘Finisterre’ gin, derives its name from the Spanish ‘finis terre’ meaning end of the earth.
Founder Angus Lugsdin says: “We are honoured to work with the prestigious Bodegas Tradición to create a limited batch of 825 bottles of cask aged gin. The fresh citrus notes are tempered through the cask ageing process which takes approximately three months, creating wonderful candied citrus aromas and moreish saline notes from the aged Fino. The result is a complex yet sophisticated gin with great character and depth of flavour. “
Lorenzo Garcia-Iglesias, general manager of Bodegas Tradición comments: “We share the same passion and dynamism as Salcombe Distilling Co. to only create exceptional produce, so were delighted they selected one of our beautiful casks in which to age their fantastic gin and our Fino sherry to be included in their gift set. Our Fino is produced exclusively from the Palomino Fino grape and has been aged in an American oak cask for at least 12 years, far longer than most Finos and sets the standard against which all other Finos are judged.”
Co-founder Howard Davies from Salcombe Distilling Co, continues: “We’ve always been curious about cask aged gin and are thrilled with this extraordinary product. Delicious served on its own over ice, mixed with a premium tonic or soda water or our perfect serve is in a Martini married with the delectable Fino in place of the more traditional vermouth.
Salcombe Distilling Co. cask aged Finisterre (46% ABV, 70cl) gin gift set with Fino Sherry (£95) is available to buy nationwide from independent retailers, farm shops, delicatessens, directly at the distillery in Salcombe and online from the Salcombe Gin website www.salcombegin.com.
