Diageo has announced the launch of a new limited edition Tanqueray gin, Lovage.
Inspired by an original recipe from 1832 by Tanqueray founder Charles Tanqueray, this savoury gin was launched at an event in central London at Aqua Kyoto’s Tanqueray roof terrace.
Created with the help of drinks maestro Jason Crawley, this gin has a savoury twist from the inclusion of the English garden herb, lovage.
Jason Crawley explained how he has been working with Tanqueray: “Developing Lovage directly from Charles Tanqueray’s archives has given the savoury style gin category a totally unique flavour. It’s like nothing else; it’s at once deeply herbaceous, celery-like and earthy, whilst retaining that signature juniper-citrus forward style, with added funk. I think bartenders and gin-lovers all over the world are going to love teasing out a beautiful mix with this.”
Tanqueray Lovage adds to the flavour line-up of gins from Tanqueray, including Tanqueray Rangpur as well as the recent Tanqueray Malacca and Tanqueray Sevilla.
Tanqueray’s global marketing manager Joanna Segesser says: “Innovation is at the heart of everything Tanqueray does. Just like our founder Charles Tanqueray, we love experimenting and working with new botanicals, so it’s a pleasure to see one of Charles’ original recipes being created at a time where savoury cocktails are on the rise. We can’t wait to see how bartenders use Tanqueray Lovage in their cocktail creations!”
Only around 100,000 bottles of Tanqueray Lovage will be released across Europe, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Tanqueray Lovage has an ABV of 47.3% and will retail at £44 for a 1 litre bottle.
