Leeds Castle will celebrate its 900th anniversary in 2019 with a limited edition gin produced in collaboration with Copper Rivet Distillery — Motte & Baillie.
The gin has been distilled in a limited batch of 900 bottles and is infused with botanicals from the Castle estate; fig from the Castle Island, Rosehip from the Culpeper Gardens and pine from the Lady Baillie Mediterranean Terraces.
Each botanical was handpicked by the Leeds Castle Gardeners and given to Copper Rivet’s head distiller.
Gemma Wright, Senior PR & filming officer for Leeds Castle says: “We are absolutely delighted to be working alongside The Copper Rivet Distillery, who are one of just a few spirit makers in the UK that undertake the complete process of brewing and distilling from grain to glass.
We wanted to create something local and very special for our 900th anniversary and a commemorative gin seemed the perfect product and fit for the Castle.
I can imagine Lady Baillie and her houseguests in the 30s whiling away the evenings in the Castle Drawing Rooms sipping on gin cocktails and enjoying jazz or playing backgammon.
We hope people will enjoy the flavour we have created and will want to take home their very own piece of history.”
Set on a 500-acre estate in the Kent countryside, Leeds Castle is one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain. The 900th anniversary celebrates nine centuries of history and heritage, dating back to 1119.
The Leeds Castle Motte & Baillie gin is available to pre-order in 50cl bottle, priced at £48 per bottle. There are only 900 bottles available via the e-shop www.leeds-castle.com/eshop
