Maverick Drinks expands range of Boutique-y gins

Maverick Drinks' That Boutique-y Gin Company has collaborated with Lizzie Ostrom of Odette Toilette, to create a range of fragrant gins, called Olfactor-y.

Olfactor-y, which will launch exclusively with Harvey Nichols for one month from 22 November.

Nick Bell, spirits buyer at Harvey Nichols says: “We are delighted to be teaming up with That Boutique-y Gin Company to launch these incredibly exciting new gins into Harvey Nichols. That Boutique-y Gin Company are known to experiment and take some risks, which makes us perfect partners for this project. With gins developed to taste like fresh rain, funfairs, Icelandic forests, and even Egyptian mummies, we believe that this is their most exciting range to date and we can’t wait for our customers to try them.”

Fresh Rain Gin

Fresh Rain Gin is said to be inspired by the science of perichor (the smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long, warm period). It’s botanical makeup includes beetroot and edible clay.

Dead King Gin

Features botanicals commonly associated with the Egyptian embalming process, including rosemary, honey, moss and myrrh.

Big Dipper Gin

Big Dipper Gin combines sweet cocoa, earthy cardamom and smoky botanicals.

Beware of the Woods

Gin botanicals such as Icelandic moss, nutmeg and cubeb capture all of the elements of the forest. Beware of the Woods places a contemporary spin on the WWII trend for green fragrances.

Ben Ellefsen, managing director of Atom Brands, comments: “The inspiration from this range came when I was listening to an interview with Lizzie on Radio 4 one morning. We started talking and quickly realised that we shared a passion for gin, and the evocative nature of scent. The ideas tumbled out of the initial meeting and it became a real labour of love to develop recipes which not only taste delicious, but evoke a powerfully evocative olfactory response.

“Working with Lizzie on this project has been a dream, and we can't wait for the follow-ups!”

Philippa Stanton Artwork

For the launch of the new range, That Boutique-y Gin Company has teamed up with synesthete and artist, Philippa Stanton. Synesthesia is a condition where the brain connects one sensory experience to another. This could be seeing sounds, putting colours to numbers or physically feeling a scent on the skin. Her approach, inspired by tasting the gin itself, is reflected in the packaging design.

In That Boutique-y Drinks Company style, each label is illustrated. Each tells the  story and influences of the gin’s fragrance with plenty of hidden gems and winky faces.

The full Olfactor-y Gin range is available exclusively in Harvey Nichols until 22 December 2018. The full range will be available to all through Maverick Drinks from 23 December 2018.
