The London Wine Fair is planning to celebrate its 40th anniversary in style with a live auction at its event this year.
The fair's organisers have teamed up with Chiswick Auctions to host an on-site auction on Wednesday 20 May, the final day of the three-day event. Around 30 lots will be going under the hammer, with a percentage of proceeds donated to drinks industry charity The Benevolent.
Lots up for auction include Dom Pérignon Oenotheque 1993 and White & Mackay's 500 Years of Scotch Whisky Anniversary Blend, and both exhibitors and the trade at large are invted to donate something special from their cellars for the event, from single bottles to cases, casks or barrels. Each lot should have a minimum value of £1,000.
The auction will take place on the main stage of the London Wine Fair, with industry figures including Miles Beale, CEO of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, wine writer and broadcaster Oz Clarke and wine consultant and former Michelin-starred chef Roger Jones among those wielding the gavel.
Consignments will be open until the end of March, at which point the auction lots will be available to view and bid on online until the day of sale via the London Wine Fair and Chiswick Auctions websites.
