The Distillers' Charity pledges £50,000 to The Drinks Trust

While this time is proving tumultuous for many in the drinks industry, in some cases threatening jobs and businesses, it has also given rise to some remarkable acts of charity and support. The Distillers’ Charity – whose focus lies in alcohol education opportunities for young people and training within the trade – has done just this, with a recent pledge of £50,000 which will go to The Drinks Trust.

The Drinks Trust is a charity which offers practical, financial and emotional support to those in the drinks industry. Particularly at the moment, their services are in high demand: they offer wellbeing therapies targeted towards anxiety, depression and insomnia, and provide both long- and short-term support. Ross Carter, Chief Executive of The Drinks Trust, said “It is heartening to know that the drinks industry is acting with solidarity to support colleagues who are less fortunate and facing hardship”.

This pledge by The Distillers' Charity comes as the Drinks Trust has launched a new Covid-19 emergency appeal - 'Your Round, Our Industry' - which provides financial support for those who have lost their income and are excluded from government support, or who are affected by critical illness.

Kenny MacKay, Master of The Worshipful Company of Distillers (The Distillers' Charity), noted that “these are unprecedented times with thousands of industry colleagues out of work”; it seems that now more than ever community support and cross-industry efforts like this one are needed to keep the trade afloat.
