Storywood Tequila announces UK distribution partnership with Proof Drinks

Award-winning Storywood Tequila has announced a new UK distribution partnership with Proof Drinks.

Proof Drinks will take on all sales and distribution responsibilities for the Storywood Tequila range, and the partnership will increase Storywood’s exposure to the UK market. Storywood Tequila has just arrived in the UK and, as the only tequila fully matured in whisky casks, is thought to be a genuine world first.

Storywood Tequila has “the heart of Mexico and the soul of Scotland” and was founded by Scottish chef, whisky enthusiast and wood ageing expert, Michael Ballantyne, who was inspired to create this innovative tequila while spending time in his mother’s hometown of San Miguel De Allende, Mexico.

Ballantyne says: “Our mission is to bring new flavours to tequila through oak. We work with distilleries, wineries and cooperages from around the world to hunt for the freshest casks. Our oak and flavours are what we love, but it’s the places we go and the people that we meet along the way that become our story. Storywood Tequila is our chapter one, with many more to come.”

The premium tequilas start with a 10-year-old mature 100% Blue Weber agave, which is harvested from the lowland region of Jalisco and is married with the natural spring water from Volcan de Tequila that flows down from the mountains. This liquid is then aged in handpicked Speyside whisky casks, flown over from Dufftown, Scotland. 

Jeremy Hill, managing director of Proof Drinks and part owner of the brand, says: “I thoroughly enjoy working with people and brands to transform the fortunes of drinks businesses, and love working with visionaries. I thought Michael’s concept of ageing Storywood Tequila in Speyside oak casks was innovative and I wanted to become involved with its journey.”

James Pattison has recently been appointed Brand Director for Storywood, having previously worked at Hi-Spirits with Jeremy Hill. He comments: “Working on brands that challenge existing categories and perception, and eventually become trend-setters, is the only place for me. I’m delighted to link back up with Jeremy and even more delighted to get to work on this absolutely fantastic product with such a passionate founder in Michael.”
