Sotheby's is inviting bids for its largest ever online auction, with lots including a premium array of The Macallan expressions and rare Italian import Scotch bottlings.
Bids for the online Distilled sale - Sotheby's' second spirits sale of the month - opened on 26 August and will run until 1 September. The sale comprises 267 lots, including some of the world's raarest whiskies, and has a pre-sale estimate in excess of £850,000.
The sale includes 94 lots from The Macallan, led by The Macallan Fine & Rare collection of some of the distillery's most iconic bottlings dating from 1940 to 1976.
It will also feature set #1 of the first release of the Prima & Ultima collection that was recently launched by Diageo. It will be the first chance to secure the coveted collection, which was signed off by renowned whisky maker Dr Jim Beveridge, at auction. Each of the eight whiskies in the collection is a "first and last" of its kind, with expressions from Port Ellen, Cragganmore, Singleton of Dufftown, Lagavulin and Talisker.
The sale also carries a selection of fine Japanese whiskies, including 28 lots from the now-closed Karuizawa distillery, three bottles of Laphroaig Samaroli 16 Years Old 1970, and two exceptional releases from Gordon & MacPhail.
The full Distilled sale catalogue is available to browse on the Sotheby's website.
