Award-winning Columbian rum La Hechicera has announced the second release in its Serie Experimental range.
No. 2, The Banana Experiment is a blend of rums aged 12 to 21 years in American white oak barrels that have been infused with generous amounts of banana flesh.
It pays homage to the original trade of three generations of the Riascos family, bananas, which were one of Columbia's richest exports. However, social and political unrest in their country forced the family to take a different course, and they eventually embarked on the adventure of making rum under the La Hechicera name.
Crafted by La Hechicera's master blender Giraldo Mituoka, it is the second in the Serie Experimental range of limited-edition liquids to be released yearly and follows No. 1 The Muscat Experiment.
La Hechicera managing director and co-founder Miguel Riascos said: "It has been an incredible journey to build La Hechicera as a global brand. The addition of our Serie Experimental range of rums allows us to continue to share our story with our consumers in a special way.
"Rum is a category that is continuing to gain popularity and Serie Experimental No. 2 is a unique product that will help drive interest in the category by recruiting new consumers and offering existing ones something new."
Serie Experimental No. 2 is available in 700ml bottles at 41% ABV, with a recommended price of £60. Only 15,000 bottles will be made available globally including in the UK off-trade, e-commerce sites, and selected European countries and GTR markets.
