Premium drinks importer and distributor Mangrove UK has welcomed multi-award-winning Clonakilty Irish Whiskey into its portfolio.
Founded by Michael and Helen Scully, whose family has been farming in Ireland for nine generations, Clonakilty has a waterfront distillery and warehouse perched on Scully farmland on the island's southwest coast.
The Scullys started distilling in 2019 using their own barley and won their first award within a year, when the distillery was awarded Best Irish New Make Single Pot Still at the World Whiskies Awards 2020.
Clonakilty's core cask finish series comprises three expressions, all 43.6% ABV: Double Oak, the flagship product finished in ex-red wine barrels from Bordeaux; Port Cask, finished in casks from the Duoro Valley in Portugal; and Single Grain Bordeaux, finished in selected Bordeaux casks.
As well as its distillery and warehouse, Clonakilty has a £10 million visitor experience, facilities including private tours and tastings, a shop and a restaurant at its site. It is a supporter of Whale and Dolphin Conservation and a member of Origin Green. Alongside its whiskeys it also makes Minke Gin, inspired by the minke whales which swim off Ireland's Atlantic coastline.
Michael Scully said: "As a genuine Irish Atlantic Ocean distillery, we feel our award-winning spirits offer a pretty unique experience for discerning customers. We are excited to be working in partnership with Mangrove UK and expanding our offerings into the UK market."
Nick Gillett, managing director at Mangrove UK, added: "This is an amazing whiskey. The number of awards that the Clonakilty Distillery has won in just two years highlights the exceptional qualities of this whiskey. A perfect brand for the on-trade, we also expect demand online and for independent retailers to be strong."
