Zachys announces first multi-vendor auction with star Burgundy lot

Auction house Zachys is preparing for its first multi-vendor wine auction featuring the first ever entire barrel of Burgundy to be sold at commercial auction.

Following its well-received debut London auction, the sale will take place on Saturday, 14 November at 10am GMT via a live stream from Zachys' office, with buyers around the world able to bid via live online, absentee or phone bidding. In total, the lots have a total estimated value of £2 million.

The standout lot is a whole barrel of Burgundy, 2019 Chambolle Musigny Les Sentiers from celebrated estate Domaine Fourrier. Alongside the barrel, the winner of this lot will also get to choose the bottling format and be invited to Domaine Fourrier for a barrel tasting experience.

It will be joined by lots from world-famous names such as Petrus, Cheval Blanc, Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Armand Rousseau, Domaine Leroy and Raveneau, as well as a rare collection from white Burgundy legend Arnaud Ente. The sale will also feature an enviable collection of Chartreuse including mature Bordeaux and collectible Champagnes.

After decades hosting auctions in New York and Hong Kong, Zachys hosted its first European auction in London in September with more than 800 lots from the legendary cellar of Enotecha Pinchiorri in Florence, Italy going under the hammer. The auctioneer has offices around the world including in New York, Los Angeles, Napa, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Paris and Stockholm.

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck in early 2020, Zachys was the first major auction house to offer fully online live auctions. Since then all auctions have taken place live-streamed through Zachys' 'Studio Sales', with up to 150 people in a virtual 'room'.

Jeff Zacharia, president of Zachys, said: "Our ability to switch to online auctions and our unique Studio Sales mean this year has been tremendously successful, despite the global pandemic. The highlight was bringing the Zachys business to London for the first time with our debut European auction. We're delighted to be able to offer Zachy's clients some incredible new lots in our November sale."
