BI counting down to Christmas with rare whiskies advent calendars

Wines and spirits merchant BI is hoping to brighten the festive season for lovers of fine whisky with three limited-edition whisky advent calendars.

A special gift for fans of good whisky and collectors of rare bottlings alike, the Very Rare & Old, Old & Rare, and Japanese whisky calendars were created in collaboration with Drinks by the Dram and each liquid was specially selected by BI's head of spirits, Richard Ellis.

The Very Old & Rare calendar, priced at £10,000, features premium whiskies including a 35-year-old release from Glengoyne, one of the Scotch masters of sherry maturation, and The Macallan No.6, described by Richard Ellis as an "old-school Macallan".

The Old & Rare Calendar (£1,000) includes a Jura 1989 bottling and a 26-year-old whisky from Rosebank, known as the 'king of the lowlands', which Richard desribes as 'complex and elegant'.

Finally, the growing interest in and demand for Japanese whisky has led to the release of a Japanese whisky calendar this year, priced at £199.95. Richard highlights the Yamazaki 18, lauded for its balance, and the Hakushu 12, a 'must-try' in the collection.

These advent calendars are available to buy through the BI website.
