Spirits and liqueurs brand Zymurgorium has kicked off 2021 with two new appointments to its sales team.
Peter Wells and Joe Worthington will lead the sales team and help the distillery achieve its growth plans for the year ahead.
Based in Irlam, Greater Manchester, Zymurgorium conducts its distilling, bottling, warehousing and office functions on one site. It employs 18 people and has a portfolio of 30 products which are stocked by companies including John Lewis, JD Wetherspoon, Greene King, Master of Malt, and wholesalers Matthew Clarke.
Peter joins the company from Halewood Artisanal Spirits, where he worked as a sales director and was invovled in the growth of the Whitley Neill gin range. Prior to this he worked with whisky brand Whyte & Mackay.
He said: "I'm delighted to join the team at Zymurgorium and build on its success so far. There aren't many spirits companies that have the ability to create, produce and bottle their own products, giving them incredible flexibility to ready to market trends and customer needs."
Joe has travelled around the globe in his 15 years with the spirits industry, holding roles including European trade manager for Four Pillars Gin and general manager of the Portobello Road Gin Distillery in Notting Hill, London. He has also managed bars and restaurants in London, Canada, Australia and Spain.
He said: "For a Manchester-based brand to be investing in its team after what has been a tumultuous year speaks volumes not only for the North [of England] but for the future of Zymurgorium."
The distillery's founder Aaron Darke has taken his product range in some interesting and innovative directions, with 'world firsts' including a Parma Violet gin liqueur and a ruby chocolate rum.
Aaron said: "2020 has been a tumultuous year for the industry with the Zymurgorium team expanding into retail and online markets as well as producing our Zymitizer liquids and gels for bulk supply. Prior to the pandemic we invested heavily in equipment and processes so the recruitment of Peter and Joe will allow us to offer an end-to-end volume service to retailers and set the scene to support the on-trade in the near future."
