A new subscription service is attempting to minimise waste in the brewing industry, serving beer from big-name brewers that is nearing its best-before date.
Stock'd Up has partnered with producers including San Miguel, Budweiser, Stella Artois, Red Stripe, Guinness and Strongbow to supply subscribers with short-dated, slow-moving or damaged stock - which would otherwise be wasted - at significantly discounted prices.
The company says it is 'on a mission to revolutionise the UK's outdated beer industry and never let a good beer go to waste'. It quotes from the Carlsberg sustainability report 2020, which estimated that, of the 200 billion litres of beer produced globally each year, 2.1-6.4 per cent goes to waste.
This figure is compounded by stock thrown out by retailers, wholesalers and on-trade venues that cannot sell purchased beer before its sell-by date, Stock'd Up says.
