Tequila brand Código 1530 has announced the launch of a special-edition expression with country music star George Strait.
Código 1530 claims to have been the first brand to produce a "Tequila Rosa-Blanco", created by resting its Blanco expression in French oak Napa Valley Cabernet wine barrels to give it a pink hue.
Its new release with George Strait - who is an active partner in the brand - takes this resting process one step further. The Double Barrel: Rosa-Reposado Tequila sees an extra finishing period in Spanish sherry casks to lend extra sweetness and colour.
It follows previous special editions from Código 1530 including the George Strait Añejo and George Strait Extra Ańejo.
George Strait said: "I was curious to further age our popular Tequila Rosa-Blanco until it graduated into the Reposado category, without charring the barrels first as we normally would do for our Reposado." He added that the flavour of the new expression was "too unique not to bottle".
Ron Snyder, co-founder and executive chairman of Código 1530, said: "To avoid turning our naturally light pink Tequila brown from ageing too long in the French oak wine barrels, we had to experiment until the perfect timing and colour was attained. Rested for approximately three months, then finished in Spanish sherry casks, the new Rosa-Reposado expression was born, flaunting a unique colour."
The George Strait Special Edition Rosa-Reposado Tequila will retail from US$74-79. It will be available from 15 September from www.codigo1530.com and at specialist retailers.
