A 100-per-cent organic Italian gin bringing to life the aesthetics of 1980s motor racing has launched in the UK.
ENGINE pays tribute in its composition to traditional Italian rosolios, liqueurs and cordials made with sage and lemon which were used as digestive remedies.
It is produced with organic Italian ingredients including Tuscan juniper, Calabrian liquorice root, damask rose and sage from Piedmont, and Sicilian lemons.
The ENGINE brand was founded by Paolo Dalla Mora, a consultant in the fashion and spirits sectors. Rather than a bottle, the gin comes in a metal container inspired by oil and fuel cans, with broader retro design cues from the 1980s motor racing scene.
Paolo Dalla Mora said: "Once the formula was defined, with the help of expert hands and good palates, I started imagining what the aesthetics of the project could be and, considering that it all took shape in my garage, I thought it would be suitable for ENGINE to have an identity that went in another direction with respect to the transparency that spirits look for today - something dirtier, unexpected, capable of completely distorting the concept of a bottle... [W]ith its strong, decisive spirit, it radically contrasts with a gin aesthetic which instead is becoming increasingly limpid, pure and clean."
ENGINE launched in the UK in December 2021 and is currently available in a 500ml can at Amathus stores, The Whisky Exchange and Hard To Find Whisky (RRP £25).
