Cotswolds Distillery launches Single Madeira Cask whisky

The Cotswolds Distillery has announced the first release in a new series of single-cask whiskies.

The limited-edition Cotswolds Distillery Single Madeira Cask is the first of the English distillery's Single Cask Series for 2022.

It was produced with 100 per cent locally grown, floor-malted barley and matured in a French oak cask that previously held Madeira. The cask was filled in April 2016 and bottled on 3 February 2022, at a cask strength of 59.5% ABV. It is naturally coloured and non-chill filtered.

Dan Szor, Cotswolds Distillery founder, said: "We're excited to launch our limited-edition series of single-cask expressions this year. These unique expressions will be released a few times each year in small batches at cask strength and show off our rich and fruity spirit at its pinnacle.

"For this release, we have aged our spirit for full-term maturation in a single first-fill cask which has previously held the Portuguese fortified wine of Madeira, resulting in a deliciously sweet single malt whisky."

Tasting notes supplied by Cotswolds Distillery say the whisky has aromas of candied orange and walnut oil, with caramelised fig and wildflower honey on the palate.
