Nordic whisky brand Stauning has appointed Mangrove as its UK distributor.
The partnership aims to build the profile of the Danish brand's internationally renowned whisky portfolio in the UK. Mangrove will be responsible for raising awareness in premium retail, improving visibility in e-commerce, and increasing Stauning's on-trade footprint.
When it was founded by nine friends in a remote village in western Denmark, Stauning created its whiskies using local grains and traditional techniques including floor malting and direct-firing for its pot stills.
In 2018 the team moved into a purpose-built, state-of-the-art distillery, but say they still maintain their use of traditional whisky-making practices.
Stauning's whiskies have made a big impression around Denmark - including at Michelin-starred Copenhagen restaurant Noma, which delisted all other whiskies from its menu after tasting the range.
Keiran Cusker, Stauning's head of sales, said: "As we look to introduce our brand to a much wider audience in the UK, we are delighted to be working with Mangrove. We are confident in their impressive track record of success and look forward to a long-term partnership."
Nick Gillett, managing director at Mangrove, said: "Stauning is one of the most exciting and engaging whisky brands out there, reflecting the personalities and beliefs of its founders... The founders are true innovators. It's both inspiring and refreshing to see how they have grown their product offering while doing things on their own terms without compromise."
The Stauning whisky range includes Stauning Rye, Stauning El Clasico, Stauning Smoke, and two special editions released in its 'research series': Kaos and Bastard.
