Beer brand Corona has announced the launch of Corona Tropical, its first non-beer beverage.
Corona Tropical is a low-ABV, lightly sparkling, canned alcoholic drink made with a hint of fruit juice. Lime is a predominant flavour throughout the range - a fruit synonymous with Corona's bottled lager.
The new range is rolling out globally in China, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Ecuador and the UK, with additional markets including Canada launching later this year.
In the UK, Corona Tropical is 4.5% ABV and available in three flavours: Guava & Lime, Raspberry & Lemon, and Grapefruit & Lemongrass. In Latin American markets, the beverage is 4.2% and available in four flavours: Lemon & Lime, Grapefruit & Lime, Pineapple Mango & Lime, and Strawberry Cherry & Lime.
Felipe Ambra, global vice president for Corona, said: "Corona is a brand that was born from the tropics and as we encourage consumers to embrace the lifestyle around the world, we're excited to offer a new Corona beverage to those who love the brand but are looking for options outside of beer.
"It is our mission to bring paradise to people everywhere and our newest innovation does just that. We created a more flavourful and very approachable alcoholic beverage, so that everyone can enjoy the feeling of paradise done the Corona way."
To market the new range, Corona will install "real fruit" billboards in selected cities from May, starting in London. People will be able to pick fruit straight from the ad to then enjoy in a Corona Tropical sample.
The launch of Corona Tropical follows the launch of another beer brand, Desperados, into the hard seltzer market. Desperados Alcoholic Sparkling Water launched in the Netherlands in April. Coming in at under 100 calories per can, the new drink is made with purified carbonoated alcoholic water, natural lime flavouring and a touch of Tequila - as is found in the brand's flagship bottled beer.
