Carbon-neutral Wise Wolf wines launch in travel retail

Accolade Wines is launching a range of wines into global travel retail packaged in 100 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) glass bottles.

The new Wise Wolf wine range, sold under Accolade's Banrock Station brand, comprises three French wines: a Pays D'OC Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rosé.

As well as using 100 per cent PCR glass cullets in their bottles, the wines feature labels made entirely from PCR paper, closures made from 100 per cent recycled plastic, and outer cases made from 100 per cent recycled paper pulp. The Wise Wolf range is also certified carbon neutral by the Carbon Trust.

In total, the Wise Wolf pack is made from 94.8 per cent recycled materials and can be recycled again. Alongside considering the sustainability of packaging materials, Accolade Wines has also evaluated the environmental impact of freight methods, and bottle shape and size.

The bottle labels feature a QR code which consumers can scan to find out more about each component of the packaging.

Accolade Wines general manager GTR and regional sales director EMEA, Martin MacKinnon, said: "With the Wise Wolf range of premium wines, we are aiming to make old-world wine more accessible for consumers with desirable packaging and familiar grape varieties.

"At Accolade our global sustainability strategy ‘Making Every Drop Count’ is based on taking real action with the ambition to make wine more sustainable. This has already enabled significant progress, with our European business certified carbon neutral.

"One of the drivers of how we can continue to improve is packaging. The 'green' packaging credentials of this Banrock Station range are highly impressive and will make a significant contribution to rewriting the rules around traditional wine packaging."

The Wise Wolf range will be available through travel retail outlets from June.
