Royal Salute releases Platinum Jubilee whisky

Scotch whisky brand Royal Salute has launched a super-premium limited edition to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

The Royal Salute Platinum Jubilee Edition commemorates the brand's historical links to the monarchy, with the first Royal Salute whisky created in 1953 as a gift to the Queen on her coronation.

Of the 147 bottles of the expression that are being made available, 38 will go on sale in travel retail at airports including London Heathrow, Dubai International, Singapore Changi, Hong Kong International, Amsterdam Schipol, and Sydney.

Royal Salute says is Platinum Jubilee edition is inspired by the Queen's "vibrant and joyous style" and her "mastery of the hidden language of costume". The brand took inspiration from seven brooches from Her Majesty's personal collection, the designs of which have been featured in seven different Dartington crystal decanter designs and box designs, with a colour palette to reflect her wardrobe.

The whisky inside was finished for more than two years in tawny port casks and features a number highly aged whiskies, including liquids from seven now-silent distilleries including Inverleven, Caperdonich and Lochside.

Royal Salute's master blender Sandy Hyslop, who created the expression, said: "For this momentous occasion, I wanted to create a blend that captured Royal Salute’s unique heritage, while honouring the Queen’s seven decades of reign. We have expertly achieved this by using incredibly rare whisky from no fewer than seven stills to represent her time on the throne.

"It is an honour to have had a role to play in this piece of history: a task that has allowed us to release a prestigious whisky that also acts as a precious collector’s item for whisky lovers to cherish."

Liya Zhang, vice president of marketing at Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail (PR GTR), said: "The ultra-prestige limited edition is the perfect piece of Jubilee memorabilia for travel retail shoppers – whether as a collector’s item to invest in to mark the historical moment or a souvenir to be generously shared with friends and family.

"As global travel picks back up, duty free basket sizes and value are increasing, reflective of shoppers’ desire to pick up premium products as part of their travel experience.  We’re so pleased to be able to bring this momentous news release to global travellers."

The Royal Salute Platinum Jubilee Edition wil be released in June 2022 and will be available to purchase at selected specialist retailers (RRP US$20,000).
