Plantation Rum auctioning bottles from limited-edition series

Barbados-based Plantation Rum has announced an auction of three rare vintage expressions.

The first-edition bottles from the sell-out Plantatium Rum Extreme Series V are going under the hammer with Rum Auctioneer this month.

The series comprises the Barbados 2007, Barbados 2000 and Barbados 1986 expressions, all created at the West Indies Rum Distillery near Bridgetown, Barbados.

Maison Ferrand, owner of Plantation Rum, says the three spirits are representative of the terroir of the island, its diverse rums and production methods.

Each rum in the Extreme Series V was first matured in ex-bourbon barrels in the Caribbean, before being shipped for southwestern France for a secondary ageing in ex-cognac barrels. Each bottle features an illustration by Bajan artist Alex Mars, whose mother worked at the distillery.

Just 286 bottles of the Barbados 1986 (55.1% ABV) were released, along with 929 bottles of the Barbados 2000 (47.8%) and 2,857 bottles of the Barbados 2007 (58%).

The Plantation Rum Extreme Series V acution on Rum Auctioneer runs from 1 to 11 July. The collection will have a release price of £1,500 with all proceeds going to Barbados Community College's Fine Arts programme.
